I tried last night, I run up to 40mph, pulled the clutch, leaned forward alittle, applied the front brake till the tire locked up and skided. didn't feel the rear tire move at all.

Sounds like you may have got on the brakes to hard....to fast. Try to be smoother with the brake....don't stab it, just be smooth with it.

I am no stoppie pro and these are tips that I have gotten:

Make sure your front tire is warm or else it's going to slip just like the rear will. It's best to start slow and low like wheelies. Get the feel for it to come up then start worrying about trying to roll them out. Frank or Casey probably could give you alot more helpful tips.

+1! That's the smoothest way to do 'em. Or you could just stab it and shoot the rear tire up into the air! But be warned if you do that...sometimes the "boys" get a lil roughed up that way! haha But I'd say the safest way to do a stoppie (wait...that doesn't make sense:D) would to be smooth with your brake and obviously don't go for the dang near 12 o'clock stoppie right after you do your first one. Right GRADY?! :dblfng

Aggressive/quick application of the brake is what causes wheel lock-up.

Should I use less brake and throw more wieght forward? It doesn't look like they really even lean forward much in the vid's.

Watch out for that 12 o'clock bar saying HI to the back of your head if you fubar one of those stoppies! Just my little friendly word of advice! Good Luck!

I haven't really done them much at all on my r6, but with my old gixer....

Like stated above, quick but smooth on the brake.
Its not so much how far you lean as much as timing your lean. You just have to throw your weight forward at the right time. Just like bouncing up wheelies, just takes the right timing.

First GEAR UP including a good neck brace.

Then go do whatever, at least when your done you'll be in one piece.

Gregg

I have and wear all my gear, with the exception of a cage(ordering one soon).

I tried again last night. warmed up my tires, All I got was a head rush from stopping real fast so many time!!! I didn't really try to throw any wieght forward, just locked my knees to the tank and concentrated on working the brake. I either locked the front tire or just stopped kinda quick. couldn't find the magic spot yet. i'll try throwing my weight forward tonight.

On a 900RR stick to a Metzler front tire and drop it to like 32psi.You can't just do it with any ol tire on a 16in rim.

Hmmm.... well damn it, I'm not even sure what tire I'm running right now... I'll have to check tonight.

Sorry, I still have to pass on the Buell. But I did do a stoppie last night!!!!
It wasn't pretty but I got the wheel off the ground about 2 feet.(and only injured 1 testicle) Damn that hurt! I was running about 10mph and just slammed the brake as hard as I could(I was getting frustrated) and up she came. Well at least it was a start.
Would it help if I changed to a 17" wheel? what other models would fit?

Were you running around Monett yesterday with two other guys? I met a group at the railroad tracks. They hit them hard and went airborne. Kinda cool, but not really something I appreciated meeting.

Ok a real eazy way to do a stoppie........
Get a Buell, it's hard not to do a stoppie every time you stop.
Has something to do with that monster grip front brake and that 52 inch wheel base.
Side note: the record for longest stoppie is on a Buell.

Gregg

and the fastest is on an 06 ZX10R

I can't do very many stunts on bikes, but I can pull a stoppie (endo).
Triumph motorcycles are know to have VERY good front brakes. All I have ever done is put it in neutral (that way, when you come back down, you don't have to concentrate on holding the clutch in), bump the front brake once to dip the front end, then pull it.
Speed is an issue here. Start slow, then work your way up. From past experience, remember about the clutch.:mad:

Make sure you wear gear also.

I did get it up last night, which gave me hope. I'm taking it in "baby steps", getting alittle better every day. I know it just takes practice. If it would help to get a 17" front wheel, I will. I just need to know what to get, and if it would really help or not.

Honda 900's are easy to do stoppies on. Practice makes perfect.

I've got a dunlop right now. I was wanting the colored tires next, anyone heard anything about them?

Molded in color tires are like crayons. I don't think you can warm them up to temp. Stick with "Black" tires.

Tomahawk tires sux! The 2 I have owned were junk and had no traction. Stick with name brands, preferably Shinko:D

Not sure, but a 17 won't fit a 900RR. Stick with a 16 and an Avon tyre.

I have heard of people using the F4 and F4i front wheels. Not sure how though.

don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but I know on my fiddy and dirtbike bouncing my ass helps tremendously. It preloads the back shock and if you do that along with hard front brakes your back wheel should come straight up. Just be carefull not to go too far... I've gone over many times on both.... that is why I don't do it on a streetbike.

Speed - start slow and go a little faster each try.

Brakes - roll onto the brake enough to transfer the weight to the front tire and set the forks down in their tubes (having the forks already compressed makes the rear come up more predictably and having more weight on the front before hard braking help the front tire stay planted) . As soon as the forks are down you can squeeze harder until you feel the rear come up. How hard and how fast you squeeze is a trial and error thing ... kinda have to develope it for your bike and style.

You really don't want to throw yourself forward if you don't have to. Chances are you'll throw yourself right over the bars eventually. Its better to have your weight forward to start with, so you can lean back to fight it coming over if you have to.

Good luck and stay safe.

Also ... I'd like to get a deal on a power stunt worx cage... maybe if a few of us wanted them we could work a group buy/discount .

Figured I'd post up again. I haven't had much time to ride lately, Work and all.
I put my new sprocket on Wen. and rode alittle. Got a -1 up front, went from a +2 to a +11 in the back. take me alittle while to get a feel for it. It'll roll up in 1st in a heart beat now, clutch up in 2nd. Top speed down to about 130.
Gettin better at stoppies, Still not high enough though. next I have to work on rollin them.
