I'm in the process of learning standups. Are you guys clutching, bouncing or chopping the throttle? I'm standing up as the bike is coming up. When I clutch it I don't feel like I have a good grip on the bar. From that I started chopping the throttle in 2nd. That worked and I'm riding it mostly through the gear but I'm hauling butt. I know I need the front higher to slow down but I would like any advice you pros could give me. Also anything on one handers would be cool too.

I will tell you how i learned.
First do Not clutch it. I find it easier to bounce it. I think that i have more control.
Second just practice bouncing it up a little bit at a time. For a week just practice your form of actually getting it up everytime you try and control how much you bring it up.
Third don't lean back. Bring the bike to you. Just stand straight up and let that bike hit your waist. If i lean back i fell like i am going to fall off the back.
The last thing i would do is video tape it. i always thought i was bringing it up farther than i was and until you see it for yourself you won't really know.
Oh ya practice alot
and ask Frank he knows better than me
So fell free to correct me Frank

Thanks guys! I want to do standups to slow my wheelies down. I'm stuck on the old school wheelies. You know, stand it up at 20 and ride until I drift or by 120ish I'm usually ready to come down. I have fun doing that but it kinda gets boring. I want the 50-70 mph wheelies that don't change speed and just keep going.
Coop you suck for having off ALL next week. But since you offered to help I guess I can let it slide.:D

That is exactly it, how do the good guys get good? 8 hours a day 5 days a week. You have to love it like a wife ;)
I personally try to roll them up also, depending on what you are riding. The liter Gixxer will roll em up pretty easy at low RPM's.
Stand ups give you more flexibility with body weight, the wheelie goes high, lean forward, etc.
