I have been challenged to take my almost completely stock ZRX1200R to Midnight Drags this Sat. My buddy which rides a FZ6 says he's going to be racing that night, so I thought I might try it out.

Any tips????

I have never raced anything, on any type of track. It is close to a stock bike. I am pretty nervous about it. I am pretty short (5'2"), and have never done a burnout. I dont have great control of the bike when standing still (usually only one foot down). DO you have to burnout to drag or can you skip that part?

Thanks,

Dan S

I don't do a burnout on my streetbike tire. If you get in the track where the slicks leave, it won't slip on you. Most bikes will wheelie way before they will spin. Just take it easy the first couple passes. Keep your revs up and use the clutch to monitor your wheel speed.

I dont burnout since it doesnt seem to change anything on a stock street tire. As long as your tires are warm (riding there) they should be fine. After a few passes your tire will be sticky from the chemicals (VHT?) they put on the track. I ride a 600 but on a 1200 you might need to after you start launching harder.

You can start on the line with one foot down (proably your right leg down so you can shift after you leave). Lean over the tank rev the engine up to about 5000 for starters and when the bottom yellow light comes out let your clutch out very slowly. Start off very slow and try a little faster each run. Once you have the clutch side of things down you can bring the RPMs up that your launching at.

Kinda hard to explain on here but Im sure if you ask any of the riders there they will be glad to help you. I should be there too, I would be glad to help you since I got tips from other riders too.

my burnout is only enough to get any dirt/dust off the tire just to make sure it don't slip when taking off. my tire has slipped coming off the line there several times.

You'll be surprised at how sticky the track is with the stuff they spray on it. Don't worry about burnouts until you are launching hard enough to slip the tire.

It will take practice and you'll know it when you get to that point.

I don't think he is on this board. His name is Brian, he works at O'riellys on Kearney. I dont think he has any extra parts 'cause his bike is pretty much stock.

You will get more runs on friday. My tip is line up in a tire track not in the middle. That's where the cars dump there oils. You don't have to do a burn out but I would do a dry hop.
