my money she will be getting a new VFR!

10-07-2004, 03:41 PM
The VFR makes the most sense from those choices. The others are supersport bikes; the VFR is a sport tourer, which means it is more comfortable yet still performs well enough.
Unless there's a local Aprillia dealer around here, I'd stay away from it.
I think that if she is like me when you find a bike or brand that you like you have to be given a realy good reason to buy something else. like the only other bike that I would spend any money on would be FZR 600, great bike, old but great bike. kick myself in the azz every time I think about having sold it.
oh yea forgot
I think she will go back to the VFR.:D

not fair my bike isn't listed. I vote for a 1800 vtx, u can't pull a wheelie but u can do some neat burn outs and bunnie hops.

Local dealer? It's not a Ducati, why would you need a dealer? lol. These are ROCK solid, and there are dealers in KC and ST. L.
I prolly take it for granted that I could do 95% of the work a "dealer" could do. You don't have to be an "Aprilia Dealer" to change tires, oil, filters, grips, frame sliders, windscreens, etc. Actually, I cannot think of anything that could not be done locally, FWIW.
If I had SpeedyCycles, I would be an Aprilia dealer.

How bout the VTR??? The hawks have been good to me, if you know what yur doin they will carry a wheel pretty far, dirt cheap, and parts all over ebay and the web. HOnda reliability, and dealers on every corner. Ask Superloud for another opinion. I'm not making this stuff up.

What, no SV?
Here are my three votes for Tiffany's new bike.
1. SV1000s with lower farings
3. Triumph GST <-------- I think this is the one!!!!

That third picture is a Triumph Sprint ST. It's the updated version of my bike. That's on my short list. I'm waiting to see one in person.

I'm saying a Honda 1000rr. That would be the only way to go. I think that it's one of the sweetest bikes out there and Tiff once you look at it closely that's where to put your money.

another vfr
I'm gonna have to make a shameless plug for the good old Yamaha FZ1 - its freqently compared to the VFR, similar mission, ass-kickin' performance, comfortable, looks good, bulletproof reliability, affordable, lots of parts, a totally amazing machine. Nothing faster (and that's **** few bikes to begin with) is as comfortable, and nothing as comfortable is as fast....nothing.
I would love to get an Interceptor too if Honda bumped it to 1000cc's, dropped 35-50 pounds and managed to hold the price line (I'd rather lose the newfangled VTEC gear and get better suspension in its place), which is pretty steep to begin with. There have been rumors of Honda replacing the Blackbird with a RC211V derived V5 engine, but the gossip fence is as far as its gone to my knowledge.

I voted for an R6 but like I said in another post the new VFR;s are sweet too. If your looking for performance I would say R6 or Kawa's 636. If you want a little better riding position, the go with a CBR600RR Or any of there 1 liter bigger brothers.

I have a few bikes in mind but I need to ride a couple to see which one "fits" best. I am not looking at getting another VFR right now but if I can't find a bike that I like any better (it will be hard since I loved the Viffer) I will always think about going back to old habits.
How about this bike? One of my favorites so far.
SuperLoud
10-08-2004, 02:15 PM
The Superhawk is a great all around bike and very cheap too!
The 05 is Charcoal gray and the 04 was Black with gold rims so you might have to go back to the 03 (R1 Blue) or the 02 (Red) to get a color you like. Procycle was selling them brand new for $6600 I think list is $8900. Great price for 100hp bike with lots of torque. If you want to go uptown get the Aprilia Touno and then I'll be really jealous, its basically a better Superhawk with fuel injection and alot more comfy than the Aprilia Mille. If Honda ever gets of their ass and builds a new Superhawk or the NAS sign me up.
BTW I've heard the valve adjustment in the new VFR is a beotch cost about $800!!!!

I've owned a couple of Triumphs in the last couple of years and as much as I like the handling and breaking ability I always felt like the lacked some power, so I wouldn't recommend a Triumph. I say stick to the famous 4 (Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki & Honda) since they are more common therefore easier to find cheap parts, aftermarket accessories and knowledgeable people to work on them. And if you ever want to have a unique looking bike you can always invest in aftermarket parts or improve on the paint job.

After careful study and evaluation, I think I would have to get a VFR especally after seeing it with bags. (I've always been told I carry around exess baggage!) Now if I could only get it in illusion blue. There ya go Tiff I vote VFR.

This poll is biased against Buells! I think she would be very happy on a half black, half orange (split left/right) S1 with big lumpy cams and the skyhigh redline of 6500 RPM.
oh wait........ That's what I'd be happiest on.............

Well, I see the majority of the votes are leaning towards the VFR. I'm really not looking at purchasing a new VFR and here are the reasons why (most people wouldn't know this unless they've owned one or know someone who has):
First and foremost, the bike is super expensive to maintain and aftermarket parts are even more expensive. You have to do routine valve clearance checks on the VFR's and the new ones cost around $800 - $1000 at dealerships to have it done. Frame sliders along cost me $230 for my '98. One plastic fairing will set you back $458 painted. Must I go on?
Second, it's a pretty heavy bike. The dry weight was about 460 lbs. For a girl, that's a lot of weight to handle in the corners. I would really like something a little lighter in the future.
However, the VFR's are an awesome bike and like I said before, I'm not going to rule it out completely. Just gonna look elsewhere first. Strongly looking into the Honda 1000RR right now.
Sorry Viffer,
We can't allow that, the Honda 1000RR is only carrying 3% of the vote on the board. You will have to choose what we select for you:D :D :D
Yeah, my buddy who sold his Viffer, loved the torque, but wanted something without the weight too. He is leaning towards an R6.

I was looking at the new VFR yesterday afternoon. What's everyone's opinions on the side mounted radiators? I imagine a drop could get expensive pretty quick.
SpeedyCycles
10-13-2004, 02:47 PM
Like Tiffany said, EVERYTHING is expensive on a VFR, even more so than the average Honda. Typical tail section pricing would look like this.
Yamaha R1/R1, etc. = $150-$200 ie 99 R1 tail = $169.57
Suzuki GSXR, etc = $200-$300
Kawasaki ZX, etc = $200-$300
Honda CBR's, etc = $350-$450
VFR tail 77215-MCW-A00ZA COWL, RR. (TYPE1) $428.99
HUGE difference, and like Tiff said, maintenance is outrageous.

Shel,
like the saying goes, "I may be small, but I'm weak! Why, I have been beat up by women half her size! And when you really think your kicking my ass, watch out, cuz I'll blead on ya then!":D
I think the important initiative to recognize here, is we are willing to sacrifice to make sure Viffer gets the best bike out of this deal - a Green Machine of course.:D
And the sooner she realizes it the happier Larry, Jason, and I will be with our...I mean her decision.:D

Looks like from what Tiff is saying that I'm in the money for that free lunch! I would take anykind of '05 liter bike to be honest with you. After having a 600 for a few years it's time for an upgrade. Tiff's in the perfect situation with getting rid of the old and in with the new....as long as it's on of those great Honda 1000 RR's. The look sweet and run fast. Enough Said

liter bikes aren't all they're cracked up to be. i think 600's are easier to handle and more responsive. most people can't ride a 600 to it's full potential. the track record at hallet is on a 600.

Just a heads up
Lebanon Suzuki (888-898-3014) is running a special in the Snooze-Leader classifieds for a SV1000s for $6,999 out the door with a $3,000 rebate paid to you after 3 years. I called and they have 2 left. Both are new 2003 models one silver and one copper. They said the rebate is through Consumer Trust Co and it's the same one they use on all the aluminum boats they sell. I don't know if there is any kind of catch to this but it might be worth checking out.
