Can someone tell me how long the forks are on a GSXR 1000 from the axle to the bottom of the top triple clamp? I would like to use a different front end on the vtx, something lighter and smaller.
Thanks!

You can swing by and grab a set (I have 6 tubes tehehe), however I think you will bend them with all that weight, and you will have to do some serious mods to get them to work.

Well right now it is just in the thinking stage but I have a new motor I am building for the X. It is 2300cc. I am planning on running injected alcohol and thinking about building a new frame to get the weight down. I have started working on a gearbox to convert to a chain. That in itself may take up to fifty pounds off the bike by doing away with the heavy rearend and being able to build a lighter swingarm.
Is there some weakness in those forks that I need to know about. Or other brands, just thinking the sportbike stuff is made to go fast and be light.

Belt drive weighs less and robs less power than a chain. Lower maintenance, too.
Just a thought.
I think what frank is getting at is the shear mass difference between gsxr and vtx. Yes they are strong and light, but I am sure a delicate balance has been made between weight and strength. Just saying they are designed to handle whatever forces a gsxr might impute on them, but take something with a couple hundred more pounds......who knows for sure. Not saying it would not work, but if you are building what you said above the front end will (I'm sure) be off the ground at times, if you have to ever chop the throttle and the front slams down........the forks may bend under the stress.

My stock VTX weighs 780 lbs, I've been told that most sport bike are around 350. don't know if you could get the VTX down that low. with out some serious dieting.
