Well after I managed to get the KTM up and running strong, I decided to sell it and get something with more low end torque. I had seen one of the 50 cc dirt bikes sold at Pep Boys at a client's home one day, and he raved about what a good bike it had been. When I first saw it, I thought it was a Yamaha, but turns out it's sold by Pep Boys and made in China. The price, $400.00 seemed really cheap. Well I had to replace the boys bike quickly, so I ran down and bought one of the Pep Boys bikes. I continued looking for a Honda 50.

I must say, I'm quite impressed with the Pep Boys bike, called a Pantera. The engine designe is just like the Honda, overhead cam, slide carb. etc. The frame and bars is made more for a teen or adult. The front forks have much more travel then the Honda, and the tires are 14". It also has a four speed transmission and hauls butt big time. I need to have the wife pace me on it. Anyway, I'm saying all this in case some of you don't want to spend the big bucks on a 2005 Honda CRF50F, (which I did this morning). I think as long as you don't abuse the Pantera, it should last quite a long time, at least you'll get your $400.00 out of it.

Now I picked up the Honda because I have two boys, yeah, that was the reason, and he's shorter too then his brother, yeah, that's it. So now they can both ride together. Actually the Honda will be my pit project bike. I'm going to put some Fast 50s parts on it over the winter. It will fit the younger boy better then the Pantera, a lot closer to the ground for him. I can also easily put the Honda in the trunk of my car to take out to Grandpa's farm where the Pantea has a much longer wheel base and is a little more difficult to get out. Plus there are lots of aftermarket Honda parts available. Anyway, I'm posting photos of both. I haven't decided to hide the Honda until Christmas morning yet, or let the younger boy start riding now. Two days ago he finally took his training wheels off his bike. So don't any of you blow the whistle if you see us out about the Honda.

The Pantera. Notice the front fork travel and trail.

The Pantera has several more inches of seat height, but the ground clearance on the motor and pegs is about the same as the Honda

The first thing I have to replace will be the Honda bars. They hit me in the knee when turning. The Pantera has much taller and wider bars.

I think I found the pit bike I've been looking for!!!!!!

Does Pep-Boys sell parts for the bikes or do you just get a phone number like you get with the Auto Zone bikes?????

Either way if you take care of it, it should last a long time. :)

The person who had one told me when his son crashed it, he went to Pep Boys and ordered the parts from them. Not sure if they keep parts in stock or not, but he was happy with the service from them. So far the bike has about 10 hrs on it and not a single problem. The warranty is only 30 days, the Honda 6 months. The Pantera is 399.99, the Honda 1300.00. Like I said, even if something went wrong with the engine and it lasted a full year, you'd get your money's worth.

I wonder if parts for the two will interchange?

Thanks Darrell, I hope the service guy who looked at it checked it out well : ). The other person who had one of these thought the Honda engine pieces would interchange, hopefully I'll never have to find out. They look very similar in design.

ahh... I want one. :( I wanna play!

Great looking bikes Jack! Better stick to having the party at the house, preferrably in the garage and not IN the house!

I donno about that steve...

Jacks house would make a good track... Start in the living room, race around the fireplace into the dinning room, thru the kitchen, around the hall, and back into the living room again ! :)
