Well, I decided to change my chain and sprockets to a 520 chain instead of the stock 530. I kept the gearing I had before (-1/+2)....and went with Sprocket Specialists sprockets (HD Aluminum Rear, Steel Front), and an EK 520 SRX Gold chain for some added "bling".

I want to thank Joe (Slowguy) for getting me a killer deal on the parts, and Chris (Firemann) for helping me out with his chain pin tool....without that thing, I would still be fighting with it!!

It was really pretty easy...I think it took me around 3 hours start to finish.

Here are a few pics.

All finished!

Should have made the wheel base a little longer. It would have made it more stable when leaned over.

Looks good never the less.

Actually it was way past the "new chain" mark on the swingarm....so we had to pull another link out. Now it's just in front of the "new chain" mark. After it stretches a little...it should be right where it needs to be. It's about 1/8" inch more forward compared to how it was before.

Not sure.....I just rode it up and down the street a few times to work the lube in real good. It sure is quiet though...you can't even hardly hear it.

I saw a gal on a R6 with pink accents on it ride past me in a USBank parking lot on Glenstone, and her chain was quite dry. I heard it from 30-40 yards away.

I wish I could get the lube they put on new chains. That stuff is awesome!

I wouldn't worry about a "new chain mark". I would have tried to get it about an 1/4" from all the way back. This way you still have a little room for it to stretch.

Oh well. What's done is done. I think you'll enjoy it.

I think they put white lithium grease on it from the factory....nasty, gooey stuff!

stupid question... whats the best way to get the grease from the chain and the gunked up oil off of the fairing? Is there some good stuff to use?

WD-40 works well.

+1 ... works great. As soon as you spray it on the chain you'll see all the gunk start coming off.

Unregistered, we took out that extra link because it wasn't even tightened yet and it was almost out of adjustment. It was either now or in a few weeks once it stretches a little.

I always use WD 40 to clean my chain, like Bri & Tiff said, I also use it to get the lube off my wheel and fairings.

Yikes! Brake parts cleaner can dry out those O rings, be careful with that stuff.

well that sucks...that's what i was told to use...bastards..lol. how hard is it to install a new chain anyway..i'm pretty sure i'm gonna be needing a new one soon. and i might as well get new sprockets while i'm at it.

Not hard if you have the right tools, let me know if you need a hand.

It looks like you used a clip rather than a rivot to put the chain back...did you? I see a lot of boards recommending against clips, but not sure how much of a difference it would really make as long as the chain is kept maintained and you are smooth on the throttle (Chris!). :)

Yep....it's not really that hard at all if you have the right tools for the job. :D

If installed correctly...I don't see how a clip is going to come off....I think as long as you maintain the chain and check it every now and then, you will be fine. If it was a huge safety concern....the chain companies would not supply the clip master links with the new chains.

I've never had a problem with the clip, knock on wood!
