I am going to buy a new bike this winter. I can figure which one I want to get, i am leaning between either a new busa, or a new gixxer, i wouldnt mind a gsxr 1000, but I like how comfy my vfr is and I am thinking that the busa would be just as comfy. I ride alot of miles and comfort is going to be a deciding factor, any one have any thoughts on this subject, and if anyone is interested the viffer is going to br up for sale very soon.

If your main concern is confort, but still want some speed and HP you may wanna concider a SV1000

Don't know about the SV, but if you ride alot of miles and want comfort, the GSXR wouldn't make a good bike. I am fine riding the corners on it, but when we ride back from Harrison, AR on 65, my gixxer isn't all that comfortable, but I am also 6'1.

Between the two your looking at, the busa is by far more comfortable.

If you want info on sport-tourers you might want to check-out sport-touring.net (http://www.sport-touring.net/cgi-bin/msgboard/ikonboard.cgi). Last spring they had a favorite sport-tourer competition Final Four style; the XX, FJR, VFR and Busa filled out the top four spots. If I remember correctly the GSXR wasn't even in the 32-bike field (which makes sense because, as Fisdu said, it's not the most comfortable bike made but then again it's not meant to be).

an off note.
My FZ1 is really comfortable for the longer rides and probably would corner pretty well with a more experienced rider than I am. I think that Suzuki makes a bandit 1200 or something that is supposed to be similar to the FZ1. It might be worth checking out.

The Bandit is Suzuki's standard, RJ. I bought one for my first bike - four months later I was lying in a ditch!
The Bandit was a big hit when it first came out because it really was a great bargain at the time, but if I were back in the market for that type of bike I'd go with an FZ1 instead if for no other reason than the air-cooled Bandit needs its valves checked every 7,500 miles while the FZ1 has the typical Yamaha 25,000 mile intervals. There have also been some quality issues with the Bandit regarding defective pistons in '01 and half of '02's production run. BanditAlleyBBS (http://pub12.ezboard.com/bbanditalleybbs) is a great place to learn more about the Bandit.
I started out on standards because the upright riding position was supposedly more comfortable, but my YZF is actually my most comfortable bike yet. I think as long as the clip-ons are above the triple clamp you're OK - track bikes like the RC51 and latest crop of RR's are getting insane.

Is that why you ride the Yamaha now?
I had no idea that they had piston problems. I know when they all came out (FZ1, bandit and the Kawasaki) that the FZ1 kind of was picked to be the winner in that group of bikes but it was supposed to be pretty close. They never mentioned that the bike had an engine problem. Then again, it was probably before anybody knew anything about it.

It's not neccessarily why I ride a Yamaha now, but it is the reason why I went from a 550-lb 1200 to a 485-lb 600. I didn't have anyone help me pick my first bike and I made the rookie mistake of thinking I could "ease" into such a heavy and fast bike.
The Bandit has actually been around for quite some time now; I think the 1200 came out in '97 (?). Some people consider it to be responsible for the resurgence in standards like your FZ, the SV, Honda's 919 and Kawasaki's ZR7 (which I also once owned) and Z. The Bandit and ZR7 both used old technology in order to keep costs down. Although the FZ, SV, 919 and Z also share parts with other bikes they're current parts rather than outdated ones. Now that you can get a slightly used FZ1 for about the same price as a Bandit it's my opinion that you get more bang for the buck with the FZ1.
Suzuki made some updates to the Bandit in '01. The fairing was reshaped into the current 2 headlight arrangement. Some people have had problems with the insides of the headlight housing accumulating junk because of factory quality control. Also, there was a problem with the redesigned pistons that turned into a big-time oil burning issue. Suzuki refused to acknowledge the problem for the longest time but finally had to give in due to public pressure. By that time the FZ1 was out and the Bandit never recovered.

That mean you could get an R6, those clip-ons are above the triple ;)
Actually, I think my liter Gixxers are MUCH more "racey" than my old 98 R1. I felt pretty comfy on the R1 for such a big hyper-sportbike.
OK, getting off topic, my bad. I think 'Busa's are sweet, and they get you there FAST! I personally LOVE the FZ1's, but it sounds like you are looking for a Suzi product.
For My money, I would get the new DZR Supermoto!! VERY upright, VERY comfy, and if you ever need to just JUMP over the cars, it will handle it ;)

That mean you could get an R6, those clip-ons are above the triple I don't think that's too far fetched; I've read several 600 shootouts were the reviewers said the R6 was the most streetable out of the bunch. I think it's the insane stuff like the RC51 where the clip-ons look like they're a good three inches below the triple clamp. Gixxers have always been pretty aggressive.

mrbudlightbeer, I've got a prestine silver '02 FZ1 that I might be willing to part with. 4500 miles, Mobile1 every 2K, Leo Vince S/O and Ivan's jet kit. We could arrange a test ride if you think you might be interested.
