This is just my two pennies:

I'm confused on what the Lounge is vs. the War Room.

Is the War Room for political/religious/flaming/BS? If so, what is the lounge for just stuff that has none of the above? I can't figure out what qualifies a thread for War Room status or even the opposite. I also see lots of thread derailing in both rooms, and I assume that's because no one else knows either.

Way I see it there are some intelligent discussions going on, and then there are a bunch of unintelligible BS that gets tossed into the threads and they turn into a storm of chaos where I have to click through 7 pages for 4 posts of relevance to the topic or people who care about what is being talked about.

How about the Lounge for motorcycle-related talk with semi-solid rules on thread hijacking and etc. A BS-room that guests can't view for posting about whatever you want, like news, or no one being in the chat room or post whoring or sports or stuff happening in your life and relax the thread hijack rules. If you want to flame somebody or a jackass cager it can happen there. Finally, how about a RPE (Religion, Politics, Etc.) room and keep the flaming/empty posting crap out of there, people can talk about their academic papers (like the Abstinence only edu stuff in the War Room) and express their complete opinions, try to encourage people not to make one-sentence posts. It would only technically add one room, and really it would be hidden, so it shouldn't be too confusing.

I can tell it's a subject of stress for some mods, and I don't know who makes the calls and how on this site, so I figured I would post this here.

Are the word filters on for the War Room?

Yes they are on in there also. Basically the threads that start or are sent to the war room are anything that is going to cause a heated debate. (or that is how I see it) Or that would not be socialy acceptable to the public

War-Room = Thick Skin

Lounge = Thin Skin

Gregg :cool:

Yeah I'd say gregg is more on target. The word filters apply to all areas of the forum. I wouldn't say the war room is xxx rated at all. I'd say more PG-17. The rest of the forum we try to hold a PG13 rating.

Oh. Does it not depend on the people posting in the particular room?

I'm still a little confused on how John Lennon, The Weather, Death Penalty, Legalizing MJ, Abstinence only education belong only in a "thick skin environment" and how squids, hockey, facebook, dogs, and current events don't. Squids might be one of the hottest discussions for sport-bike riders, since they are pretty much the biggest reason we have high death rates, and are viewed negatively in the press and in society. Hockey is a pretty brutal sport. Facebook is keeping people from getting jobs, dogs have killed children and are being killed by the thousands. Current events illustrate we are headed for an economic depression where probably 1/3 people in the thread proper will be filing for bankruptcy...

Where should I post my new thread about GTA 4 being badass?

If you think it's going to spark an argument, it goes in the War Room. If you think it won't then you can put it in the lounge.

Then if someone turns a thread into a heated argument, the moderators move it to the War Room.

And it's all subjective........what you would deem controversy, to another would be a non-event.
