View Full Version : Getting rid of stock mud flap/plate mount

I worked out a pretty price effective ($20.00) solution to getting rid of stock rear signals and plate mount. The LED turn signals mount either side of the new plate location and using the factory plate light, the plate is clearly visible at night. So far (knock on wood) multiple cops have seen it and had nothing to say.

Looks good........but I have heard of people getting pulled over for having their plates mounted there. :)

The one in the picture doesn't look too bad. Does it have a light on it somewhere? I know that's one of the rules.

As for the original one... I'd be willing to bet you get pulled over soon because of the plate location.

he actually thought that i was a guy that ran from branson pd, him, christian county, and springfield pd last night, but stopped me beacuse my license plate was 1/1000 of an inch off. had me in the car to run my name and make sure i didnt steal my bike... didnt do a damn thing about fro tho....

At some point ya gotta ask yourself........WHY do I keep getting pulled over? And rectify the problem.

I have mine as far back on my tail as I can get it without it hitting the tire. I still get comments on it, when I get pulled over for apparently no other reason. Its usually something like "There was a bike across town running from a cop, so I pulled you over"

FRO
08-25-2008, 08:05 AM
Well this time I don't belive we did anything wrong you can see his plate clear as day so I don't see a reason to ask myself why!

Yep.....

Not pointing any fingers....but I've seen a lot of guys riding around town that just beg to get pulled over. Running around in 1st gear all the time being loud as hell, revving the snot our of their engines at every stop light they come to, swerving between cars like crazy, just riding like idiots and acting like some 16 year old that just got the keys to daddys Corvette.........if you are someone that rides like that (not pointing any fingers)....you can't complain when you get pulled over a bunch by the cops.

I know TONS of guys who never have any problems with the cops.....and then there are those guys that ALWAYS have problems with them, and they can't seem to figure out why

I would have to say this is only the 4th time I have ever been pulled over!!! But let's get back on topic. I was just trying to show that Ryan got pulled over and you can clearly see his plate. this wasn't about who did what wrong. But for some reason everyone likes to think that way. My god you can ask people I ride with I'm always in the back doing close to the speed limit. But again this isn't or wasn't about me I was just making a point about his plate and that it will not fly. What we were told it had to be up right just about like the factory one is mine is tilted a little under the tail light he said that is fine but could be more up right but will work.

BRAD

Open discussion.......we all learn.

FWIW, I log as many miles as anyone here........and can't remember the last time I had interaction with LE. .........Not saying it has ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING, but......I ride with courtesy, use common sense, obey the law.......and run the gay OE license plate mounts. I don't suffer episodes with "the man" and ever need to consistently post it up.

I'm all for modding your toys to suit individual tastes/style.......but again, at some point ya gotta understand that if it can even remotely get you pulled over......is it worth the "harrasment"? ........Just sayin.

this has just started to be a big deal im right with you on everything you just said all but the stock bracket its just the people that hide the plates or put them so they cant be seen has made this plate stuff so bad or the ass holes who run the leo are just sick of it

the only point of this post was to show how MY plate sits and the fact i got pulled over for it.... yea i gotta ticket... it sucked apparently the court date i have next tuesday has a license suspension tell i show up... wtf? idk why.... he told us when he pulled me over it was for the tags, in the car tho he claimed the tag was fine... so he really had no reason to pull me over, and thats only the 2nd time to get pulled over on the bike.

So glad to see all the feedback on the look of the bike after the mod. Not only looks better, but is also good for about 2-3 mph on the top of the track. Also for the record I have recieved a speeding ticket (at night) on Hwy 60 and that cop also took no issue with the relocation as it is clearly visible from 50 feet and lit up. Some of my encouragement to go ahead with the relocation came from fellow riding buddy, who just so happens to also be a cop.:D
