PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING
So I have a project that I'm working on. I was planning on keeping it for a track bike but in all seriousness I'll probably just end up selling it and starting some other project but I have a dilemia.
Do I leave the 02' R6 stock and run carbs or do I Fuel inject it.
To fuel inject it I have to use certain parts off an 03' or newer R6 motor, I have stuff from an 04'. Things like the Head, Throttle bodies, Timing Star, Wiring harness, Ignition pick up cover, CDI (computer) box and put a fuel pump on it, possibly.
I have everything I need to do it but I'm concerned about resale value.
The pros are that it will have more power and reliability the only con that I can think of is that it will no longer be a 100% stock motor!
Thanks for your input.

If you have the parts, I can't see the hit in resale being significant. Maybe if it was a newer bike, but an 02 is pretty close to the bottom of it's deprecation. I sure hate my carbs on these cold mornings, that's for sure.

If you're going to sell it, leave it stock Chris.

What does a stock fuel injection setup go for on ebay? You could just sell it and make some money......
You could sell the who package as "FI Conversion kit for R6...Everything Included!" I bet there are some people that would pay big bucks for that.
If you know you are going to sell it, you're probably better off leaving the R6 with the stock carbs. :D

Ditto. It'll be easier to sell with a stock motor.

I couldn't see the average rider paying more for an FI R6, and if so, probably not much more. For all of the additional labor involved, and possibly tuning, I would leave it stock.

As someone that likes the idea of converting every vehicle I own to EFI, I do still want to say "Don't bother". You'll still have more time/money in an old bike that's still not "fast" anymore.
Besides, as a track bike, I'd guess that suspension work and rider training would make it faster per dollar spent as opposed to motor work.
I'm voting for "stock rocks" on this one.
Too much work for the return.

Actually I can get more for the carbs than I can for the EFI system.
I already have the head off the motor so it doesn't really mean anymore work.
Wasn't planning on asking anymore for it if I sold it.
I think it would defenitly be easier to tune it with EFI.
See I've thought about all this stuff and that's why I'm in turmoil. LOL

Make it stock and you wouldn't have to tune it....

If you can get more money out of the carbs then inject it and sell the carbs.

You shouldn't have to do anything with EFI........;)
Carbs "should" just go right back on w/o any tuning:rolleyes::rolleyes:
The whole problem is that EFI makes bikes so much easier to start and ride but I don't want to loose money on selling it because I've improved the bike.

chris its all about resale, if you keep it then do what you want but if you plan on selling it keep iy stock so then the others can determine what they want done

Looks to me that you already have your mind set on FI it. So go for it.

I really haven't. I just know how much more I prefer my R1 with EFI to my FZ1 that had carbs. Starts easier, throttle respomse is better.
I guees I just need to decide if I'm keeping it of going to sell it..........
I'd like to keep it for a track bike but I'm not sure how many track days I'll actually make it to (Hallett only has 3 scheduled for 2009) and if I'd enjoy it as much as my R1, which I have no intentions of getting rid of.
