I have been watching alot of vids lately and alot of guys have been doing stunts at low speed and have really effectively been doing what seems controllable and safe(er). I have always wanted to learn wheelies and stoppies but never really wanted to go to jail. It looks like a lot of fun, but I have a few questions. This will probibly be a winter project, so I am going to need, a huge sprocket, a cage around the motor, good brakes, and .... Whats a good way to learn how? What is the top speed on a bike with a big sprocket? I assume they are still "streetable" I noticed on most stunt bike the muffler is hanging below the bike, why? What kind of bike should I be looking for? I've noticed alot of guys use 600's with HUGE sporocketas or 1000's with big ones, not many 750's.

Get a dirt bike and learn to wheelie going up hill, it's a lot easier and if you wear the right gear the learning curve isn't quite as steep, nor as painful.

Depending on what your overall goal is, there are a lot of choices. I don't know your experience level, however if you want to learn how to wheelie, I would learn in a wheel chair, progress to a small 4 stroke quad, them maybe a CRF50 (or equivelant), and then a street bike. It is much better to go thru a progression IMO.

If you want to do slow stuff, a 600cc or smaller would be ideal. Big sprockets help you keep the bike going at a very slow speed, like circles, etc. I think SV650's make descent stunt bikes, good low end umph, easy throttle control, etc.

I hope that helps.

listen to speedy, I've seen him scrap his tail pipe just for fun at slow speeds, pull noseys for days, he's a good stunter, or rider, or whatever he is. :D BTW, its his pic at the top of the stunt section, so goes to figure he knows something. :D

PS frank I think I got the wheelchair down. :D

Frank popped the wheel on my xs450 (I know) about 5 or 6 years ago! I never thought of that progression frank. I was in a wheelchair for about 8 months so thats pretty easy for me but it's been well over a decade since I have been on a quad. After coating last night I took a little ride just to cool down and settle down and get ready for bed. I can across a bridge by my house and downshifted and hit the gas hard and the front wheel came up much to my surprise. Then I tried to do it on pourpose, nothing. LOL I know, I know I need to get used to riding again.

Frank is right progression is key. Johnny is a great testament to that. He rocked the fiddy for roughly a year and a half, and now a year after being on a big bike he is killin it. No major injuries is another key there.

yea dont go out and try to leard on a streetbike.. might kill yourself or someone else... its all about brake and throttle control..start small and work up!!

I can wheelie my 125 dirtbike all day but I can only wheelie my ninja about 10 feet at most. I just put a -1 front sprocket on my ninja 500 today and it realy made a difference but not enough. I guess I will have to do the back to. Do I have to add or minus in the back in order to get more power?

power will stay the same. to get more acceleration, which is what you want, you will need to go up in the back.

Would a little 50-100cc motard work? Or is that what you where implying?

Start off on a 50. Learn to cover your rear brake ALWAYS> Kill it on that then go to a bigger bike. Takes a lot seat time for sure.
