Can we appeal the banning for 3 day period? How long does a person have to wait to appeal? Can we have a stay until the ruling is handed down? Is there a tribunal willing to hear arguments regarding the alleged offense that caused the banning? Who picks the judges for the tribunal? Do you have to have a law license to represent the banned person in this tribunal? Where are the tribunals held? How long can the argument be? Can I cite prior precedence and precedence from other forums? How long will the appeals process take? :D

In June we had a troll join this site, my fault I know. Members begged for the troll to be gotten rid of but as a member he has the right to be here. OK...we can see that. So the troll kept on, even after several warnings, and it got worse here. Donating members and Mods even got in on it. Then the PM's started to the Admin/Mods about people wanting their accounts deleted and BANG...the crap hit the fan and stuff started happening. Mickey was banned and the threat of banning came down on everyone else.

I may not be seeing everything here but it seems like all of this is because of ONE person pushing everyone's limits and laughing the whole time watching this site and it's DEDICATED members implode. I have never seen anything on here like I have seen since June. I remember when the hammer was dropped about modifying "bad words" and how it would not be tolerated. I kept waiting and waiting after seeing the "F word" modified several times and nothing happened. As a parent I know all about giving that extra inch then another and another till that Mile has been taken by the kids and we as parents have lost control. It looks like the same thing has happened here. It has been chaos and anarchy here the past couple of months and now it's clean up time. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

I may get a warning because of this, maybe even banned but I am just not understanding how it got to this point or even what is going on 100%.

This site will never be just about motorcycles. I see it brought up all the time about how no one talks about motorcycles on this motorcycle site. Well there is only so much that could be said about motorcycles especially with a group of people that know each other personally like we do. There are 25,113 threads and 314,011 posts. How many of those are about motorcycle related topics? In my opinion it just won't happen. But we can be civil here, it has been done.

a few complained about the avatars. I pointed out that there is the option to not show them in the user cp. you can't put any avatar you want because a few people were too lazy to turn it off while at work or if they have kids.

Don't beat yourself up, Shane.....the basic fact of the matter is that Mickey was more or less like a mad dog. Eventually you have to put the mad dog down, and that's that.

I think that things will settle down for now. Members will always come and go to some extent, that's the name of the game. And yes, when we all know each other so well it's not reasonable to assume or expect that we won't talk about anything but motorcycles. Again, a little self-policing goes a long ways here.

But honestly, we've picked up several great, contributing members in the last 4-6 months. The rides have picked up in number, the weekly events are absolutely thriving, etc. I'd call that a raging success all day long. The folks that aren't involved (for a variety of reasons) in those two activities are those that typically complain the loudest. The fact remains that your core contributors both on the site, and in site spun functions are the ones that benefit the most from the daily goings on here. Save for a couple of problems that ended up rectified, those core folks are doing nothing but bragging about how great the site has become, and how much fun it is.

No, it was not only Mickey. That was however a reminder to me that I was being lazy as a mod and not contributing the time necessary to read through all of his threads. Hence us going back to the basics.

Not true you've had several posts deleted over the past few weeks but the threads probably just died and nobody has brought them back up.

There is the whole problem. If I think it is objectionable. We don't all have the same brain or ideas or tastes. What I find objectionable may be fine for 75% of members. Does that just seam wrong to me only? I think overall this has been a great site and worked pretty well, But that just gives one person to much power. The only one that should have that kind of power are the oners of the site. The MOD's should have to have a majority aproval to bad someone. It seamed to work for the government. It seams to work for socity in general to work like that.

Funny thing is, it has kinda worked! I used to log on and have 10-15 reported posts to deal with and several PM's from members asking me to look at something that was going on. I logged on today after being off for close to 24 hours and not 1 PM complaining about behavior and only 1 reported post to deal with!

I would say that things have gotten better also.

We (mods) went from seeing an occasional reported thread to seeing lots of reported posts complaining about thread jacking, negative comments about members bashing each other, etc and it wasn't the same members picking on other members.

Seriously we are not strict at all on ths site, every other site I belong to has no problems banning members for the smallest reason.
