Well the time has come, I am sponsoring the notorious rida's and Johnny's bike is first. This is a complete sponsorship, the entire bike (besides plastics) will be coated. I am very excited to see the bike come apart and the first 15 pieces are coated. I'd like to start with Johnny posting some pics of the bike before we started. I am more or less put this out there like a build thread.

Johnny is still in the process of stripping the bike down to it's small pieces but I have gotten started on the smaller stuff. Small hard parts are going to be black, The frame is going to be a candy red, and there is going to be a gun metal pearl in there too. I have the first load of pics ready to post so I am going to let johnny post his pics then I will let her rip with coating!!

That sounds great! I know it is hard to pick up sponsors in todays economy, way to step up and help them out!

Well the simple fact of the matter is that the superficial stuff like looks can overshadow an excellent rider. Good riders like Scotty and Johnny are sometimes ignored by the camera because of the way there bikes look. Well I can change that. Johnny's bike is going to be ready for ride of the century, and I hope that an ESPN2 camera will follow him around a little. It brings attention to both of us, and we both need it!

Here is us working on some 44 ft long swinging gates in super durable wet white. The are for the Springfield equestrian center. We did 26 gates for them total.

Hell yeah, can't wait for it to be done. Johnny told me a lot about you and your work. Great stuff. Looks good. I can't wait to do mine this winter. I'm definitely not lookin forward to the break down though. But it'll be well worth it. Johnny's having riding withdrawals over here. lol

Curious as to how much weight all the powder will be adding to the bike. Have you guys weighed everything before the process started?

total added weight should be about 3lbs. I ordered 7 lbs of powder and after it cures it should be about 1/2 the weight minis 10-15% that doesn't stick

And for those following the thread - my injury and a few frame problems have put us back a few days. I should have the frame, subframe and swing arm done in chrome tonight

That's about half of what I was going to guess. :) I've had several sets of wheels done, if I recall correctly they seem to average about 1 to 1-1/2 pounds extra per wheel. This bike should look really trick when finished.

A POUND per wheel!? Wow!

The last set I had done, the coater wanted to add a layer of clear with gold or silver flake mixed in, on top of the base color (which was Kawa green). So yes, to answer your question, you can coat in clear.

lol.. The last 2 sets were both wheels for the Ninja250, perhaps all the spokes required more powder? Those wheels do have more surface area than say compared to my Street Triple wheel, lots of ribs/relief.

Man even with a layer or two of primer you shouldn't exceed a 1/2 pound on a 17 inch wheel

1lb... I wonder how much rotational force that adds up to at 60+ mph on top of the original weight of the wheel.

Most wheels come painted or powdercoated from the factory and if you soda blast them before putting on new pc whats the difference.

Good point. Removing the factory coating and re-coating them should make the difference = 0.

We do it sooo much when we have to work on our own bikes. In this industry we have to be our own mecahnics. And you just learn your bike better then anybody else does. But from time to time we do need help, from people like you, to powdercoat and clean up or messy bikes. lol
