I can provide some input. PM me so no one here is offended by my comments ;) lol.

Also, search archives on the comparison tests. I believe it won the 2001 CycleWorld test according to Mitch Boeam (sp). His quote was something like, "The Honda 929 did not post the fastest lap times, not did it do well in the 1/4 mile. I was not the fastest in top speed, it came in as the heaviest bike. It did not come in the best in the HP either, however I feel overall this was the best bike out there". I have it on video somewhere. I just fell over laughing when he gave the bike such a back handed compliment and THEN choose it as the winner. Wonder if all his years working for Honda had any influence?

I am parting one out right now, and from a mechanics standpoint, they are NOT easy to work on.

I agree on pulling the 929 down to pieces was not bad, but if you just want to change spark plugs... urg. How about a motor swap? You pull the frame off the top, and the swingarm off the back, and you have a three piece motorcycle to reassymble. No spank you.

If you have an choice, I agree, the R1 is HARD to beat. I am a Gixxer fan, however for the street, I think my choice would be R1. For the track... Liter Gixxer all the way :imp

so what you guys are saying is that the bike is just average, and i should stay away from it? my buddy is looking to get a bike and he is not the best rider so i was going to sell him my 600 and buy something bigger, i also know a guy trying to sell me his 03 r1, all black, for 8,000, is it worth that? thanks hope to ride with you guys again this weekend, let me know when and where.

I should ad that the 929 is the most compliant, and most forgiving bike in that line up. Brandon is right, I prefer the bike that does NOT want you on it. Out of control :8b madness.

8k for an 03 R1....it better be perfect and have LOW miles. I just picked up my mint condition 03 R1 with 2800 miles for a little lower than that. I don't have a ton of experience so I can't offer good advise. But, I find the R1 more comfortable than my 01 R6 was......and it has ALOT more power. Now, that I took the lowering dogbone off I can throw it around the curves just like the R6.
Good luck with whatever you buy
